Muddled Mutt - Graphic Quilling Picture Landscape Art

Wellll... this graphic quilled mutt  looks so confused that he reminds me of a poster I saw at one of my work places... " I've tried so hard to turn into what you want me to be that I've forgotten what I am..." and he had the same dumb look on his face.

For this one I used a combination of strips and quilled loose coils. I tried to get the wrinkled look by crushing the coils before shaping them. I think it came out kinda cool. Just the way I wanted.

Both the eyes differ on purpose.

Graphic Quilling Picture Landscape Art- Bambi & Thumper Twittypating

I Love Bambi so I thought I'd try quilling a line drawing. This is done graphic quilling style and was created by pasting a single strip in place of lines.Wow! I like the way it turned out.

I quilled tight coils for the nose & eyes. To get the highlight in the eye, I pasted a white tight coil after shaping the black coil and pasted it to the side and then wrapped it around in black once again. I am proud of the way the eyes turned out, as I have managed to maintain the innocent sparkle in the eye.

And for the foliage I used left over fillers and paper. The round flower is beehive quilling , the grass flowers are created by folding the strip up & Down while holding it between your thumb and index finger and then encircling and pasting the strip.

I usually use the beehive circle for treetops and the zig zag circle for quilling images.

Quilled Picture Landscape Art- A Feathery Discussion

This quilled picture of birds came out really well.
I have used Husking for the head and tail. For the male's tail feathers I fringed a 3mm . blue strip slightly and pasted to the husked tail feather.

I created the branched and the bird's feet by rolling the paper on a toothpick like a cylinder.

The leaves are my own creation. I just cut it in shape and folded it at the center and then folded it like a fan . I love the look.

The big mistake I made was not thinking of the background before quilling the birds. Then I had to quill round the birds to create the backdrop which took me a lot of time. Beginners please don't make the same mistake.

Graphic Quilling -Harmony in Contrast

This is a combination of graphic paisley design quilling and 3d flowers. All elements are quilled using black & White. For the roses I pasted a black strip on white and quilled it.
The large flower has two layers of half black half whiye teardrop petals.

Quilled Flowers Cascade in Blue

I have never used blue so I made these quilled 3d flowers from dark blue, light blue and white strips. Just made up the design as I went along.
The flowers are made in two layers. The bottom layer is dark blue 1/2  A4 strips teardrops. The top layer is 1" white strip pasted to 1.5" light blue and made into teardrops. The centre is a light blue loose coil with 2 white 1mm 1/4 " scrolls stuch vertically to maj=ke the stamen.

The leaves are made using husking.

Quilled Flowers- A Symphony of Daisies

Well I've been quilling my thumbs off trying to quill landscape pictures, so I thought I'd take a break and quill some simple 3d flowers and this is the result.

For the daisies I made the yellows fringe with 1.5 cm 2"strips and pasted .75" brown strip of same width and the fringe is slightly broader. This was pasted to 2cm white strip which I cut with a scallop pinking scissor and fringed even broader.

The stems are made of brown strips which are cut narrow and gradually broadening towards the end. This was wrapped around a cocktail stick and the edge which overlaps was gummed slightly to prevent the stem from unwinding.

The ribbons are multi-strips grpahic quilling.

Quilled Picture Portrait Jesus Christ Bearing Cross - To Calvary

I quilled a portrait, landscape or picture style of Jesus carrying the cross different from the previous one. For this project I used my own quilled filler and for the lines that needed to be well defined I used strips. This image was quilled like a mat and pasted on a black background.

I just folded 3mm strips Zig zag between thumb and forefinger and encircled and pasted to make the filler. I am really thrilled with the results. I used forceps to paste it and am now gaining on the battle with the paste!!

Hope you like this one as much as I do... it took me ages to complete.

Quilled Jesus Christ Portait Landscape Picture- Crown of Thorn

Its lent and I was inspired to create a quilled portrait, landscape or quilled picture style, symbolizing the crucified Christ. I found a vector photo in black and white and used it to quill this. It was a labour of love... it took me many hour but its completed at last and I'm thrilled with the results. The eye was the most difficult as it gives the character to the image and I didn't want Christ to look ferocious or angry by getting it wrong. In the end I managed to get it just like the original image I used. I hope you like it as much as I do.

The image of Christ and the cross is composed of strips pasted to the base. I found that pasting the strips for the outline and filling it with the relevant color strips was the easiest way to do it. I initially got myself tied up in knots trying to paste the filler strips without the outline, but I soon realised that I had gotten hold of the wrong side of the stick. Anyways, the background circle is made of loose marquee pasted densely.

I have tried to make the curve of the strips to follow the natural shape of the body and the unevenness is by design tor try to make it as natural as possible.

Graphic Quilling- Vector Art

I saw a vector diagram and thought I must practice my graphic quilling technique which is far from good. I Made the butterflies from scrolls while the buds are husked. For the leaves I used multi colored husking. The twirls are not perfect but I'm getting there!!

Quilled Tree Landscape Picture Art - One Tree Hill

Finished my quilled tree landscape picture at last. I have used many techniques for this one. The tree top is made of honeycomb circles ( beehive technique). The grass is created from folding zig-zag. The yellow and pink hills are my own creations. I just folded the paper up & down and encircled it just like the grass but without pinching the the top and bottom so that I got a circle with something like a peace sign after encircling it.

The tree trunk is graphic quilling technique, using brown yellow and black. I have used a combination of orange, 3 shades of yellow and peach for the treetop. I cut the strips to 1.5' lengths and then pasted them randomly into one long strip and quilled the honeycomb circles ( beehive method- check my link section).

The dark green and yellow hills are made from crimped paper. Folded zigzag to the length required and encircled.

The flowers are a combination of roses quilled with 3mm strip and star flowers of yellow with tight coil centres. For the blue flowers I  used a scallop pinking scissor to cut 4mm length pieces blue 3mm strip and pasted it to a fringed flower made of 1.23" length 3mm strip. I fringed the 3mm strip slightly to get a velvety middle.

The tree is mounted at a slightly higher elevation as the root section is pasted on top of the grass and I pasted tight coils to the underside of the tree top in order to get the 3d effect, hence the shadow of the tree is visible.

All in all I am really thrilled with the outcome.  Tutorial for quilling landscape is available here.

Quilled Butterfly & Flowers

I made the quilled butterfly from an image from the internet. I made it using landscape or picture quilling techniques.  The butterfly is made from simple loose scrolls encircled in black. I had a printout of the monarch and placed a cellophane sheet over which I pasted the quilled shapes one to the other. Gumming is the bane of my life. Used lots of pins to get the shape and had to be really careful I did not use too much of gum. the outer part of the wings are made of tight scrolls encircled in black. Made the body using 3d quilling technique.

The flowers are from Inna's design. There are links to Innas site on my tutorial links page . Leaves are simple loose scrolls pasted to the side to get the concentric effect.

Black & White Quilled Flowers and Swirls

I love black and white, so I quilled this quilled 3d flower piece. I have used fringed flowers and roses. The leaves were cut in shape on 1cm strips and I fringed the edges slightly. I scored the leaves to depict veins with a stylus tool placing the leaves on a card board box piece. (If the surface is too hard it will not emboss well and will damage the surface of the paper. If too soft it will dig into it.)
I have used husking to form the leaves and did not use a comb.
In order to get blunt swirls I pasted strips end to end on opposite directions and then brought them together to form a curl.

Honeycomb Flower - Quilled Floral Design

I wanted to experiment quilling with multi strips so I just made up this design as I went along. It just took me about half an hour to complete this. I love the honeycomb look so I made the quilled flower using the beehive technique. For the open concentric circles I used husking and then cut the last three and pasted it. The two mango shapes were achieved by quilling the tips slightly after encircling it in yellow.

Black& White Flower Swirl - Quilled Flowers

I quilled this floral design with white printer paper. Apart from quilled roses and fringed flowers with centres I have used husked leaves for the centre. The edges are made of fringed leaves and the little flowers are my instantaneous creations where I cut 5 petals each and pasted it to a 3mm , 2.5" length strip. the petals fell a little short of the strip so I could make the scroll really tight.
